A brawl broke out amongst a group of people outside the Hinds County Circuit Court.
Family members of Latasha Coleman were there. The 46-year-old has been missing since July.
Family members of her estranged husband, Derrick Coleman, were also at the courthouse Thursday morning.
Something led to a huge brawl that erupted both inside and outside the building.
Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said deputies arrested five people and charged them with disorderly conduct and were being held at the Raymond Detention Center.
According to a court administrator for Judge Johnnie McDaniels, a hearing was held Thursday in an appeal regarding Derrick Coleman's 2022 conviction for violating a protective order to have no contact with Latasha Coleman.
At the end of the hearing, Judge McDaniels dismissed the appeal and sent the case back to municipal court. Court records say Coleman has been in jail since October. Judge McDaniels ruled that he violated the conditions of his bond.
Court officials said his wife's relatives may have lashed out, because they misunderstood and thought the dismissal of his appeal meant Coleman would be released from jail.
Jackson Police Chief Joe Wade said they are not ruling anyone out as a suspect. He said Coleman's name has been high on their radar.
Wade said they have conducted large searches, subpoenaed phone records and even reached out to the FBI, but so far, they do not have any new leads.
Family members of Latasha Coleman continue to call for answers following her disappearance.
