Recruiting top quarterback prospects has always been a critical ingredient for any elite college football team across the country. In order to compete with the best teams in America, odds are you’re going to need an elite trigger man under center.
Colorado head coach Deion Sanders is well aware of this fact. In his most recent press conference, Sanders discussed the importance of landing a top flight signal-caller for his program.
Deion Sanders on reeling in a top quarterback
“Well, quarterback’s everything. You look at college football right now. And you look at consistent quarterbacks and you’ll see consistency in the records. And you look at even the Pac-12. You look at the quarterbacks. All the teams that are winning the most that have been together for a multitude of years,” Sanders began.
“Not just the first year in a team like us. But they have a consistency at quarterback. And that’s tremendous. So, you want to get a young guy in that can preferably learn from your stud. So, he can emulate and imitate that. And go on and carry us to places we hadn’t gone before. But that kid is tremendous. Mother and father are tremendous. His family. Raised with love and respect and a very admirable kid. I can’t wait to get him in house and let’s get to work with him. He’s gonna change the game in several aspects,” Sanders noted on the latest quarterback that he landed.
The Buffaloes are lucky enough to have Deion Sanders’ son, Shedeur Sanders under center right now. He’s been one of the best quarterbacks in college football this year, but the Buffaloes aren’t planning on him to leave for the NFL until after next year, since he wants to be the top quarterback prospect selected. He’s completed 72.3% of his passes for 2,420 passing yards this season, while tossing in 21 touchdowns with just three interceptions.
In his team’s 46-43 double overtime loss to Stanford, Sanders still threw for 400 yards, while tossing in five touchdowns and one interception. The one interception he did throw, however, was a costly one. He tossed a costly interception in the second overtime, allowing the Cardinal to complete the biggest comeback in program history.
The quarterback that Sanders mentioned above just recently committed to the Buffaloes for the 2025 cycle. It’s none other than Antwann Hill, Jr. out of Houston County (Warner Robins, Georgia). Hill is currently rated as the No. 7 quarterback prospect in the nation and he earned a four-star rating, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.
The 6-4, 205-pounder committed to be the Buffaloes quarterback of the future on October 23rd. He’ll be joined by four-star wide receiver Winston Watkins, Jr., the younger brother of former Clemson superstar Sammy Watkins.
Shedeur Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes will face one of their toughest tests of the season this weekend, when they face off against the UCLA Bruins on Saturday night in the Rose Bowl.
