Like all great empires throughout history, The American Empire is on the decline and on the brink of collapse. Americans are looking to elect a new leader to help save the Democratic Republic of the United States of America in the upcoming Presidential Election in November 2024. The United States of America is facing unprecedented times.
The threat of a global war threatening the home shores, a refugee crisis burdening the Northern and Southern borders, and racial injustices within every urban neighborhood, are all indications that something has gone terribly wrong with America’s Democratic approach to governance both at home and abroad. If America’s leaders do not get a handle on these issues swiftly, the “American Dream” fantasy, the I Have a Dream speech, and “Yes We Can” slogan won’t be obtainable and will be just a moment in history that will be written in the way WWII Veterans imagined, but the reality of the future for their descendants paints a much bleaker picture.
Is there an alternative to the status quo Democratic and Republican duopoly way of handling issues? How has that worked out for the greatest and youngest of the five Nation States with veto power in the United Nations Security Council? Has America come to a crossroads of sorts?
Forty percent of American citizens eligible to vote, do not vote. These Americans are faced with a choice this election season- The couch or the candidate. These are the individuals that feel left out of the political arena due to lack of choice of candidates that represent or resonate with their core values. The Cornel West 2024 campaign seeks not merely to reform but to fundamentally reimagine the very essence of our societal structures to bring humanity together for a common righteous cause of equality and justice for all. Dr. West calls this vision Transformative Justice that is deeply rooted in the unwavering commitment to dignity, equality, and the sanctity of every human life.
At a press conference hosted by the Afrodescendant Nation on May 20, 2024, at the National Press Club in Washington D.C., Dr. West spoke about “America’s four-hundred year plus debt owed to the Black U.S. Residents” and how a West/Abdullah Presidential Administration would work tirelessly to “enshrine reparations and Land Back provisions into Law...”. Enactment of such a law will demonstrate America’s commitment to addressing the financial injustices and initiate the process of healing and reconciliation.
In addition, Transformative Criminal Justice is well overdue and a priority in a West/Abdullah Administration. Ending Mass Incarceration, Shutting Down Cop Cities and the militarization of American Law Enforcement is a “declaration that safety and security cannot be forged from the barrels of guns aimed at our communities.” says the West Campaign. Global injustices in places such as the Gaza Strip in Palestine, the deplorable working conditions in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the civil unrest in Haiti are all indications of a failed global commitment to stand in solidarity against injustice, disenfranchisement, and inhumane treatment of the poor and imprisoned populations in underdeveloped countries.
America cannot afford to and should not get involved in other Nation States affairs. The West Campaign’s Global Justice stance on the presence of Military Bases on other Nation's soil is unique in that closing U.S. Military Bases abroad will foster in diplomatic ties as opposed to the threat of violence with military force. According to the West Campaign this policy “seeks to end the era of U.S. Military dominance that often breeds resentment and instability.
Reduction in Military Aid to Nations like Israel and reducing the Military Budget will allow for reallocation of funds and resources to help with humanitarian efforts and address global environmental concerns; effectively allowing underdeveloped Nations an opportunity to be self-determined while receiving support and love from other Nation States.
Dismantling U.S. Imperialism and Disbanding NATO though at first glance may appear to be a tall order of business, as outlined in the West Campaign’s platform on Global Justice, however, considering the sentiment toward United States unwavering commitment to the Nation State of Israel and aiding and abetting the Nation of Israel in what many in the International community has deemed as genocide, America’s credibility as a moral authority has greatly diminished and Presidential Candidate Dr. West was the first candidate to call for an immediate Cease Fire in Gaza. West later proposed that the Nation of Palestine and the Nation of Israel must figure out how to live together on shared land without United States intervention, committing to non-intervention in foreign governments affairs.
Another governmental structure that requires immediate transformation in America is the Federal Immigration Policy. Divesting in foreign affairs and redistributing funds to Nations States that are striving to overcome economic hurdles, will lend to a reduction in the need to overwhelm the United States Borders thereby, reducing the amount of dehumanization, humiliation, and militarized policing at the southern border. Asylum seekers coming to America through clear legal channels should be afforded swift but thorough processing to a pathway for residency.
The Abolishment of Ice is another era in which the West Campaign seeks to articulate the vision of a Federl Immigration Program that acknowledges the human rights of citizens over militarization and punitive enforcement. The West Campaign has put out a call to action to embrace our common humanity, reimagine the Unites States status on the world stage, and to confront the sins of racial injustice of the past and present, at home and abroad.
Experts predict that baby boomers are better off than their children. Most young Americans do not participate in the political system because a lack of hope and inspiration. These are the same individuals that now have another option other than the couch. The West Campaign of Transformative Justice seeks to weave a new tapestry of justice that includes all humans, regardless of creed or social status.
West Campaign declares it is a righteous cause and invites you to enter the “sacred struggle for a world where justice flows like a mighty river and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”
With the recent conviction of former President Donald J. Trump and President’s Biden’s questionable health, The West Campaign offers undecided voters something substantial to consider. The Question remains will traditional republican leaning and democratic leaning voters sit out this election if neither Trump and/or Biden are no longer on the ballot?
